Pain management is one of the most common goals of physical therapy. In many cases, this is achieved through focused stretching and deep tissue release. However, there are cases where a little extra help is required to manage the pain.

Kinesiology taping
Kinesiology is a type of physical therapy that involves the application of kinesiology tape to inhibit pain, decrease swelling, and improve the contraction of muscles. The tape is applied to the skin to lift the tissues underneath. This helps to increase blood circulation. It also helps to release spasms in the muscle.

Kinesiology taping helps to:

  1. Reduce pain by interfering with the pain signals to the brain. You can therefore continue working the muscle without actually feeling the pain.
  2. Reduce swelling and inflammation by increasing blood circulation to the affected area.
  3. Delaying fatigue.
  4. Maintaining good muscle tone.
  5. Distribute physical stress on the muscle to other surrounding areas, thus allowing the muscle to take on more load.

Kinesio taping for neck pain
Kinesio taping can be used to manage neck pain resulting from tension, knots or spasms in the muscles of the neck or shoulders. Kinesio taping helps to decrease muscular spasms as well as pain in the neck, scapular and upper trapezoids.
Kinesio taping for lower back pain
Kinesio taping is emerging as a popular way to manage lower back pain. It is an inexpensive, effective and easy way to manage back pain. It can also be used in combination with other therapeutic interventions for the best results.
Kinesio taping can be used to provide pain relief for various painful conditions including sciatica, muscle inflammation and herniated discs. The tape provides comfortable support for the injured area without restricting movement.
