The Benefits of Kinesio-Taping, Physical Therapy

Kineso-taping, also commonly referred to as athletic taping, is used as a non-invasive way to manage joint and muscle inflammation and pain. Although commonly used by athletes to improve performance, you don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy its benefits, which include:

Relief from pain
Although Kinesio tape contains no medications or therapeutic substances, it offers a highly effective way to deal with both chronic and acute pain. The tape is placed on the skin to lift it. This reduces pressure on those sensitive pain receptors and results in the blocking of the transmission of pain signals to the brain.

Reduction of inflammation
Kinesio taping helps to improve blood circulation around the affected area. This aids in the removal of fluids and other waste products from the injured area. This in turn reduces swelling and other effects of inflammation.

Aids faster recovery

With increased blood circulation to the affected area, the tissues will heal much faster. Correct taping therefore helps to speed up healing of affected tissues.

Improved performance
Correct taping of injured joints and muscles helps to provide support without hindering their range of motion. You are therefore able to remain active even while you are injured. The taping also helps to ensure that you do not make the injury any worse than it already is.

Providing relief from muscle spasms
Muscle spasms often occur as a result of fatigue or overuse of the muscles. Spasms can be very uncomfortable. Taping the affected muscles helps to improve blood circulation and thereby increase the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the tired muscles. This in turn helps to eliminate the muscle cramps and spasms.

Ensure correct taping by seeing a physical therapist.
